The Twisted Grin

The late Donald Barthelme was renowned for his tall tales, spun or twisted out of "normal" life situations, and told with a truly bizarre sense of humor. Now, for the first time anywhere, Barthelme’s estate is allowing ten of these mysterious tales to come to life on stage in adaptations by Saint Paul playwright Larry Ripp.
Barthelme was a prolific author of 11 collections of stories (including Come Back, Dr. Caligari), four novels, a children’s book (The Slightly Irregular Fire Engine) and one play (Great Days). New Yorker magazine published many of his early short stories, including the famous "Me and Miss Mandible," about a 35-year-old sent to grade school by error, and "A Shower of Gold," about a sculptor appearing on the game show Who Am I?
The Vintage Players will tempt and tease your imagination in these extraordinary tales, accompanied by atmospheric music in the tantalizing setting of a working Stillwater winery. Recommended for people who want to think, laugh and be alarmed. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be very afraid...
The performance runs about 90 minutes, including intermission. Wine and other beverages will be available for purchase.
